USPA NEWS - This year, the Paris Peace Forum took place in Paris from November 11 to 13, 2020, at a distance given the current confinement situation in France, established since October 30, to fight against the spread of COVID-19. On the first day, November 11, 2020, the opening ceremony took place at 2 p.m. The next day, November 12, 2020, a succession of events, both at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as at the Elysee at the French Presidency. At the same time, between 9:15 am-10am, a session on Alignment of financial flows with the SDGs and the Paris Agreement with Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Secretary of State in charge of tourism, French people living abroad and the Francophonie took place. Then from 10:15 am-11:15 am, another round table took place around The Charter of Paris and the security architecture in Europe, thirty years later: What remains of the spirit of Helsinki? with the participation of Jean-Yves Le Drian, Sauli Ninistö (President of Finland), Heiko Maas, Andrei Zagorski (IMEMO)“¦ In the afternoon, an Official Ceremony in the presence of the President of the French Republic, Ursula Von Der Leyen (European Commission) and Kristalina Georgieva (IMF) took place from 2 pm to 3.30pm. At the end of the day, between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. a discussion took place about COVID-19, on ACT-A and Vaccines, tests and therapies against COVID-19, the way of the global public good with the President of the French Republic , Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus (World Health Organization), Ursula Von Der Leyen (European Commission), Erna Solberg (Prime Minister of Norway) and Melinda Gates (Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation). THE OBJECTIVES OF PARIS PEACE FORUM 2020 DURING THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK--------------------------------- The Paris Peace Forum is part of the dynamic initiated by the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, to reaffirm the importance of multilateralism and collective action. In 2020, it is mainly devoted to the common response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The main questions addressed throughout the forum relate to solutions to recover from the pandemic: improving global health governance, rethinking our economic models and making them greener, ensuring that data and social networks are solutions, not threats. In 2020, the Forum therefore focuses on projects and initiatives from around the world aimed at responding to the health, economic and social crisis linked to the COVID-19 pandemic, and improving our collective resilience. On the occasion of the Forum, a Finance en Commun summit (12 November 2020) will highlight the role of public development banks in reconciling the necessary short-term responses to the crisis and sustainable recovery measures that will have a long-term impact on the planet and societies.

THE CALL OF CHRISTCHURCH DURING PARIS PEACE FORUM 2020---------------------------------------------------------- The last day of the Paris Peace Forum, November 13, 2020, started a discussion on the Christchurch Appeal - Defining the next steps together with the PM of New Zealand, Jacinda Ardern and Henri Verdier, (French ambassador for digital ), Anjum Rahman (Council of Muslim Women of New Zealand), Courtney Grégoire (Microsoft), Paul Ash (Government of New Zealand)“¦The afternoon continued with a round table on a commercial theme, entitled "Rethinking value chains in the aftermath of the crisis" around Franck Riester, the minister responsible for foreign trade and attractiveness with Pascal Lamy on President of the Paris Peace Forum, Marion Jansen (OECD) and Laxman Narasimhan (Reckitt Benckiser Group (RB). 100 PROJECTS SELECTED FOR THE 2020 EDITION----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- All key players in global governance, including public development banks, states, international organizations, NGOs, businesses, foundations, philanthropic organizations, religious groups, unions, think tanks, and universities , were invited to submit innovative solutions within the framework of the 2020 call for projects.-------------------------------------------------------- Launched in March 2020, this call collected more than 850 project proposals - a record since the creation of the Forum - from all types of actors: NGOs, companies, international organizations, States, local communities, etc. This is a sign that despite the pandemic, there remains a formidable reservoir of international cooperation and a will to respond to the crisis collectively. Among the 100 projects selected, 46 focus on immediate responses to the health, social and economic crisis, in particular around the 3 priorities of the Paris Peace Forum this year: 1-Improving global health governance 2-The use and regulation of digital tools and platforms developed to respond to the crisis 3-Support for civil society and economic activity in times of pandemic 4-Other selected initiatives provide answers to many challenges which did not disappear with the Coronavirus or which, on the contrary, were accentuated: development financing, efforts for the climate, protection of the oceans and biodiversity, '' access to drinking water, the regulation and security of outer space, the regulation of data and artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, governance of education and equality between women and men.
