The French Prime Minister, Edouard Philippe chose to respond to the invitation of the Simon Foundation in Cyrene dedicated to his first official travel regarding disability, accompanied by the new Secretary of State in charge of Handicap, Sophie Cluzel. On Sunday 21 May 2017, Edouard Philippe paid a visit to the residents of the Rungis Shared House (91), which allows people with disabilities to break their solitude by living with a family of friends. A symbolic and meaningful visit for the new government that meets the expectations of people with disabilities who wish to live in the heart of the city. The Prime Minister has stated his interest in alternative solutions to institutionalisation and intends to engage his government in this way. The visit highlights the disability house shared model aim to implement a shared shared equity, restricted-resale shared equity, individual mixed equity and group mixed equity ““ that are most suitable for people with different disability, asset levels and abilities. It also suggests a range of government policy interventions if shared housing for people with disability is to be scaled-up. DISABILITY IS ONE OF THE GOVERNMENT´S PRIORITIES EDOUARD PHILIPPE SAID---------------------------------- One of the Government's priorities shall be the disability, under Edouard Philippe´s government. "Disability is one of the priorities of the President of the Republic, he placed it high in the hierarchy of his priorities," Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, told the press after his meeting with the inhabitants . Ultimately, the establishment should accommodate 33 handicapped and 26 disabled people. The head of government regretted that "for a long time and for some time", the issue of disability is addressed "through the question of norms, laws, rights". "We can go a little further" and "ask ourselves practical questions (...), inclusion in society, in school, in sport, in all areas of collective life", “Edouard Philippe, said. "We start from a logic in which everyone comes with his handicap, his individual help device to build something collective," he said, referring to the way these structures work. "That's something interesting, which we do not necessarily have in the French system." The "role of the State" is to help "to multiply and model the device (...) throughout the territory", he added. Sophie Cluzel, an associative activist, praised this example of "inclusive housing in society, in the city, ... symbolic of living together respecting the choice of the person". The shared houses Simon de Cyrène are located in 12 cities in France. This first trip a few days after the appointment of the new government sends a positive message but calls for concrete actions ...His predecessor, Manuel Valls, was committed to "facilitating life" for people with disabilities. However, the situation of people with disabilities and their families did not really improve during the period from 2012 to 2017. A small anecdote reported that even in practice, the official convoy of Prime Minister Valls, parked ... (in 2016) on a place reserved for people with reduced mobility! The ministry was also totally inaccessible for people with disabilities at the same time. It will be interesting to follow the declarations and commitments of the new government and the Prime Minister regarding his priority with regard to disability in France. To be continued...
