USPA NEWS - The response efforts are supported by 40 Department of Natural Resources (DNR) personnel, 18 Ontario, 40 Quebec, and 60 local firefighters, with additional resources including 12 helicopters, 4 planes plus a bird dog, and about 5 pieces of heavy machinery.
The estimated size of the Long Lake wildfires complex remains at 8468 hectares, with no further damage reported. Crews have established fire breaks around the wildfire's perimeter, using a mix of dozer guards and hose lines, but the fire continues to burn out of control.
The firefighting team is now progressing from the perimeter inwards, gaining ground on the fire. In some regions, they have made progress to within 150 to 300 feet. After experiencing a very dry day yesterday, rain is forecasted for the area today, aiding the firefighting endeavor.
A gift from Mother Nature! Reports indicate heavy rain is falling near the West Dalhousie wildfire in Annapolis County.
Radar analysis reveals a period of intense downpours in the area over the past 30 minutes, with the most intense rain having moved east and conditions improving; however, further precipitation is expected to follow throughout the evening. The fire remains out of control, but this rain is certainly welcome.
