USPA NEWS - Marquez takes victory. Bagnaia third. Opening lap crash eliminates Bezzecchi and Di Giannantonio
Balaton Park, Hungary – Sunday, 7 June 2026 Marc Márquez claimed victory at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix at Balaton Park, securing the 100th win of his MotoGP career. The Ducati factory rider maximized his pole position start, maintained control throughout the race, and confirmed his dominance of the weekend following his Sprint victory on Saturday.
Opening lap incident: Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, Fernández and Aldeguer out
The race was immediately affected by an incident at Turn 1, triggered by a crash involving Jorge Martín. His fall caused a chain reaction that collected:
• Marco Bezzecchi
• Fabio Di Giannantonio
• Raúl Fernández
• Fermín Aldeguer
None of the riders involved suffered significant injuries, but all were forced to retire from the race.
Marquez and Acosta break away, Bagnaia completes the podium
With the field split by the early crash, Márquez was able to manage the pace with consistency and precision. The only rider able to match his rhythm was Pedro Acosta, who finished second after a solid and aggressive performance.
Francesco Bagnaia secured third place thanks to a clean, controlled race — a crucial result on a day marked by multiple dramatic moments.
Championship standings tighten
Bezzecchi’s retirement, as championship leader, significantly reshaped the overall standings:
• Acosta closes the gap to –48 points
• Márquez moves up to –72 points
The 2026 MotoGP World Championship remains wide open, with three riders now separated by a margin that leaves room for further twists in the upcoming rounds.
Post race statements
• Marc Márquez (Ducati): satisfied with the historic milestone and with his race management.
• Pedro Acosta (KTM): focused on the title fight, encouraged by his race pace.
• Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati): pleased with the podium and with the consistency shown during a challenging weekend.
• Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia): disappointed by the incident but determined to bounce back at the next race.
