October 10th, 2017 - Group C of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers continued Match Day 4. Vietnam continued keeping the second place on the table successfully by beating Cambodia 5-0.

Vietnam moved level on eight points with group leaders Jordan, who were held to a 3-3 draw by bottom-of-the-standings Afghanistan, while Cambodia sit in third place on three points.

“Vietnam deserved to win the game,“ said Cambodia´s Brazilian coach Leonardo Vitorino. “Vietnam´s players are better than ours, they played well and also made use of their chances better than us to score goals.

“There were so many serious mistakes especially with the defensive line in the second half, so Vietnam could have scored more goals. We have so many problems that need to be resolved after this game.“
Interim coach Mai Duc Chung wished new Vietnam coach Park Hang-seo well as he left his role on a high note, after a comprehensive 5-0 win over Cambodia in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers.

The caretaker coach was appointed in late August following the resignation of Nguyen Huu Thang and he oversaw a fine performance from his team at Hanoi´s My Dinh Stadium despite torrential rain falling throughout the Group C clash.

Park watched the game from the stands and takes over on Wednesday as Vietnam gear up for their final two qualifying matches, against Afghanistan on November 14 and Jordan on March 27.

“I´m very happy with this victory,“ he said. “I want to thank our fans and supporters, they helped us a lot by coming to the stadium despite the hard rain.

“I believed that we would win the game, but the result makes me quite surprised, we could even have scored more if our players did not miss so many chances.

“And finally I want to say goodbye to the team, and I want to give my best wishes for the new head coach of Vietnam team.“
