USPA NEWS - The President of the Republic, Emmanuel MACRON, met on Tuesday 4 July with Riyad HIJAB, coordinator of the Syrian High Committee for Negotiations (HCN). He confirmed France's support for the Syrian opposition that the HCN represents in the framework of the inter-Syrian talks that take place under the aegis of the United Nations.

The President of the Republic, Emmanuel MACRON, met on Tuesday 4 July with Riyad HIJAB, coordinator of the Syrian High Committee for Negotiations (HCN). He confirmed France's support for the Syrian opposition that the HCN represents in the framework of the inter-Syrian talks that take place under the aegis of the United Nations. The President assured Mr HIJAB of his determination to commit himself fully and personally to achieving an inclusive political solution within the framework of the Geneva process. He spoke of his discussions with the leaders of the countries involved in the region, notably the United States and Russia, in order to obtain a real reduction in violence and a reduction in the suffering of the Syrian people, which have lasted too long. This was the meaning of the two clearly laid out red lines on the use of chemical weapons and humanitarian access. The President of the Republic particularly stressed the priority that France gave to the improvement of aid to civilians.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Finally, the President and Mr HIJAB reiterated their call to preserve the unity of Syria and the need to fight against Daech and terrorist groups. President Emmanuel MACRON expressed his wish to maintain close contact with Mr HIJAB in order to support and accompany the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people.Source: Elysee
