OUR REVIEW

The film stars a British and American ensemble cast. In the film, Belle is taken prisoner by a fearsome Beast in his enchanted castle and she learns to look beyond his appearance while evading a narcissistic hunter who seeks to take Belle for himself. Walt Disney succeeded in turning beloved stories and characters into brands by creating Disneyland. Kids could see old familiar characters in a completely different context. The Broadway version of 'Beauty and the Beast' introduced a different form of re-branding: the stage-musical-based-on-an-animated-feature...Now the studio is introducing a cinematic cousin to that form with a deluxe new movie version.
A tale as old as time... Fairy-tale villains always seem to want what they can't have... Gaston (Luke Evans) is an arrogant, vain and barbaric hunter who seeks to marry Belle (Emma Watson) and can be seen as an angry white man with inexplicable power calls for the destruction of difference in the name of protecting his homeland from a hypothetical threat. Maybe the Director (Bill Condon) tried to offer an almost realized alternate universe where diversity and racial harmony are the norm, conflicts are resolved and everyone in town has a great singing voice !
